SB 648 -- FIRE REGULATIONS FOR MENTAL HEALTH FACILITIES

SPONSOR:  Champion (Denison)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special
Committee on Healthcare Facilities by a vote of 8 to 0.

This bill replaces the term "lunatic asylum" with "mental health
facilities" when referring to facilities that must have stairs or
fire escapes.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and
FY 2009.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say the bill is necessary to change the
provisions of law to reflect the correct term.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Champion.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
